Introduction to the Department
Preservation at Stony Brook is a library-wide endeavor involving all staff. The Preservation Department leads the preservation program by implementing approved prevention and remedial procedures and methods. The Department makes treatment decisions in collaboration with subject specialists, department heads, and branch library heads and managers.
The Library's commitment to preservation is stated in its mission, vision, and values statements which express an obligation to protect materials for the continued use of current and future students, faculty, researchers, and the public at large. All preservation priorities, actions, and decisions are made within the context of the Library's Collection Development Policy.
