I have compressed my EndNote file into the .enlx file. I then copied it to a hard drive. However, I cannot get it to open once it is on the hard drive.

Because the hard drive doesn't have EndNote Program. You will have to open it in a computer that has EndNote installed. By the way, you can create an EndNote Web account and sync your EndNote library to the Web so that you have a backup. This feature works for EndNote X6 and X7.
