RSOM Faculty Development Guide: Start a Teaching Renaissance

This guide contains resources for the Renaissance School of Medicine faculty.

Overview

An Audience Response System (ARS), also known as a Classroom Response System or Clicker System, is an interactive tool that enhances engagement in presentations or classrooms. Instructors display questions on a screen, and participants respond using devices like computers, tablets, or phones. The system then immediately showcases the collective responses, creating a dynamic and inclusive learning experience.

Our learning management system, CBase has a built-in audience response system that all students and instructors have access to.  For more information and help setting up the audience response in your course please contact Dale Robbins Dale.Robins@stonybrookmedicine.edu

Below is a recording of the session on the CBase audience response system that was given as part of the RSOM Faculty Development Series.  Watch this to see all the steps for setting up and running the CBase ARS system.

CBase ARS Features

The audience response system built into CBase has the following features:

  • Display Questions Directly in PowerPoint: Integrate questions seamlessly into your presentation slides, eliminating the need for preloading.
  • Seamless Integration with Student Roster: Automatically sync with the course schedule to connect with the student list effortlessly.
  • Flexible Response Management: Choose to either save the results for future reference or discard them immediately after each question.
  • User-Friendly for Medical and Dental Students: Designed with familiarity in mind, as all medical and dental students are already well-acquainted with the Audience Response System (ARS).
