RSOM Faculty Development Guide: Start a Teaching Renaissance

This guide contains resources for the Renaissance School of Medicine faculty.

Responsibilities of the Student

In small group learning students are not passive learners who sit and listen to their instructor lecture.  They must be prepared to engage throughout the entire session.

Students' Responsibilites

  • Come to class prepared - Students need to do the prework or the small group session will not be successful.
  • Engage with the materials, their instructor, and their classmates - This includes participating in the activity, answering questions that are posed by the instructor, commenting on classmates answers if they have something to add, and being an active participant in any group work.
  • Apply their knowledge to higher level thinking and real-world experiences - This will be done through the activity that expands on the knowledge they gained during lectures and the prework that they did.
