Newspaper Databases

The University Libraries maintain online subscriptions to a number of databases containing newspaper content. Access is provided through the links on the library's website. If you are accessing them from off campus, you will be prompted for your NetID and password.

Points to remember:

  • Some databases will only have certain specific years of a newspaper and not the most current content
  • Full text may be in PDF (looking like the actual publication) or HTML (often missing photos and graphics)
  • Searching newspapers through databases is not the same experience as searching a personal subscription to a newspaper
  • Newspapers may publish web-only content and interactive stories that do not appear in the databases

Below is a selected list of databases. For more, see here.

New York Times Subscription

Current Stony Brook students, faculty, and staff can sign up for their own personal New York Times subscription (accessible through the web and their mobile app).

Find a Publication

Are you looking to find access to a specific publication?

Search the title in the library's Journal Search to see where we might have database access to it and for what years.
