Introduction

The Ask-Tell-Ask Feedback method helps students recognize their strengths and areas for improvement while giving preceptors a chance to provide both positive and constructive feedback.

Feedback Agreement
  • Agree on goals before the clinical encounter.
"What would you like feedback on?"
Ask
  • Ask for learners self-assessment.
"How do you think that went?"
Tell
  • Address learner's concerns.
  • Share observations and at least1 thing the learner did effectively.
  • Discuss 1-2 concerns to do differently.
"Your suturing skills were excellent, fluid, and precise without rushing.  Going forward I suggest focusing on deliberately visualizing relevant anatomy."
Ask
  • Create plan for learner's self-improvement.
"What is your plan to review anatomy before the next class?"
