Go to Zotero website to download the software. It can automatically detect your OS and your web browser, and it will provide you with most relevant download links:
To install Zotero on Windows, simply follow the setup wizard that will show up when you run the installation file (EXE).
To install Zotero on Mac, simply drag the Zotero icon to your Application folder once you run the installer that you just downloaded.
To install Zotero Mobile on your iPads or iPhones, simply search for it on Apple Store (or follow this direct link) and get it directly from there.
As of August 2024, Zotero for Android has not yet been released. Please check back later for updates on its availability.
Zotero Connector is available on Chrome Web Store for its Chrome extension and Microsoft Store for its Edge extension.
For Firefox users, the extension can be installed automatically when accessed from a Firefox browser. If opened from any other browser, the link will download the extension file in XPI format.
For Safari users, Zotero Connector is bundled with the Zotero desktop application for Mac. Unlike other browsers, Safari doesn't allow direct installation of browser extension. If Zotero Connector doesn't appear automatically on Safari after you installed Zotero desktop, you will need to enable it manually from the Extensions pane in Safari settings ("Safari" menu on top bar → "Settings..." → "Extensions")
The word processor plugins come bundled with the Zotero desktop application and should be automatically installed for each supported standalone word processor (Word for Windows, Word for Mac, and LibreOffice) on your computer when you first launch Zotero.
The Google Docs plugin is included with the Zotero Connector for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. To use it, the Zotero desktop application must be actively running; otherwise, an error message will appear when you try to use the plugin.
Zotero Web Library is an online version of your Zotero library. It allows you to access, manage, and share your research materials within your library from any web browser, regardless of the device you are using. The Zotero Web Library offers many of the same functionalities as the desktop version, allowing you to organize your collections, add or edit items, and create or update tags and notes.
The web interface might have some minor differences compared to the Zotero desktop application, especially if you are using Zotero 7. However, the interface is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, ensuring that any variations are easy to navigate. You should find the experience consistent and straightforward, minimizing any potential confusion.
Before you can use the Zotero Web Library, you will have to login to your account or create one if you don't already have one.
