Don't simply lift amounts listed from your company's financial statements. These amounts are often expressed in millions of dollars. Check for notations that explain the true value of amounts listed.
For example, Walmart's Balance Sheet in Hoover's lists current cash assets (as of Jan. 2014) as 7,281.00. Common sense dictates that if Walmart had cash assets of only $7,281 the company would be in big trouble. At the top of the balance sheet it is noted that "all amounts in millions of US Dollars except for share amounts." This means the actual amount is $7,281,000,000.
