Stony Brook Medicine Supported Mobile Resources

Each app is marked the following letters to denote whether it's freely available through the iTunes Store, available for you to download through Apps@Work, or available through the HSL's subscriptions:

If you need help with your iPad or the mobile resources on it, go to the main desk at the Health Sciences Library (HSC level 3) or email mMedEd_Support @stonybrookmedicine.edu.

Mobile Apps by Function

Access Medicine
(L) Create a MyAccess username and password from on-campus and then download and log into the App. This App includes free access to Diagnosaurus.
Dynamed
(L) Click on Mobile in the top left menu on the Dynamed website and type in your email address. Dynamed will send further instructions for setting up the mobile app.
Radiology 2.0 - One night in the ED
(F) Series of cases that allow the user to simulate reading CT scans at a PACS workstation.
UpToDate
(L) Click on "Log in/Register" twice and complete the registration fields. You must register from within the Stony Brook network in order to gain access to the mobile app and accrue CME credits.
VisualDx
(L) Click on "get mobile" friom the top right menu on the VisualDx website to sign up for the app.

Lexicomp
(L) Click on Mobile App Access on the right side of the screen, select your platform and instructions for downloading and installing the App will be provided.
Micromedex
(L) Click on the Download Mobile Apps button on the lower right of the Micromedex website.
PDR
(F) Provides mobile access to the Physicians Drug Reference.
WISER: Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders
(F) Mobile app designed to assist emergency responders in hazardous material incidents.

Clinical Key
(L) Great for simple searches in textbooks, including Netter's . Create an account with your Stony Brook email on the web interface, then download the app and log in with your account.
Read by QXMD
(L) ‘Read by QxMD’ provides a single place to discover new research, read outstanding topic reviews and search PubMed. It also suggest articles for you to read based on your chosen keywords.

Canopy
(F) Thousands of medical phrases in 15 languages, and the ability to call an interpreter from the app.
PTSD Coach
(F) The PTSD Coach app can help you learn about and manage symptoms that often occur after trauma.

Visible Body 3D anatomy online
(L) Visible Body is a suite of apps that includes 3D visualizations, animations, and learning tools to explore human anatomy.

Evernote
(F) Take notes on any computer or device and sync them across two devices for free.
Good Reader
(A) Read (or have the app read them to you!), mark up, and share pdfs. $4.99
iAnnotate
Read, mark up, and share pdfs. $9.99
Penultimate
Take handwritten notes in Penultimate, sync them and search them in Evernote.

This list is far from exhaustive. To find more medical oriented apps check out all the apps that the CDC has released or visit iMedical apps. iMedical apps is a medical apps review site where physicians, allied health professionals, medical trainiees, and mHealth analysts review mobile medical technology. It's particularly useful because reviews are based heavily on reviewers' experiences in clinical settings and they have a strict policy on avoiding conflicts of interest.
