Welcome to the
Preservation Department!
The Preservation Department at Melville Library oversees and manages documents and data content; it advises and collaborates with the Library’s administration and the University’s scholarly community: faculty, staff and students. In support of Stony Brook University's missions of education, research, regional leadership and community service, the Department provides for the care and treatment, standards and preservation of all library assets (both analog and digital) within the aegis of the University Libraries, and their affiliated partners and bodies.
All analog and digital assets handled by the Department will receive the highest level of preservation service consistent with the asset’s characteristics and the current, accepted standards for the materials long-term preservation and care.
